Call for Guideline Proposals

We invite the critical care community to submit guideline topic proposals aimed at developing relevant, rigorous, and impactful clinical practice guidelines that promote consistency in patient care and improve outcomes.

 

Who May Submit a Proposal

Clinicians, researchers, and healthcare professionals in critical care

Guideline topic submitters are not required to be Society members. However, if the topic slected for guideline developement and individuals selected for guideline leadership roles will be required to obtain Society membership. 

 

SCCS Guidelines Chapter leads the methodological support throughout the guideline development process and the design of guideline implementation strategies, including the creation of clear, evidence-based infographics to facilitate knowledge translation and clinical uptake.

 

Guideline Development Timeline: Once a full guideline panel is convened, development typically requires approximately 18 months, depending on scope and complexity.The timeline may vary based on multiple factors, including: Number of clinical questions addressed, Complexity and volume of the published literature, Scope of the guideline (new guideline vs update), Availability of panel members

 

All guidelines developed under the Society adhere to the following core principles: 

  • Recommendations are based on systematic review of the best available evidence from peer-reviewed literature

  • Panels include knowledgeable, diverse, and multiprofessional experts

  • Transparent conflict-of-interest management is applied throughout the guideline lifecycle

  • Broad stakeholder involvement is encouraged, including patients when appropriate

  • Industry funding is not used for guideline development

  • Updates are considered when new, practice-changing evidence becomes available

  • Collaboration with other organizations may occur at approved levels of engagement

 

Criteria for Topic Selection  Priority is given to topics that demonstrate:

  • Significant clinical uncertainty with wide variation in practice or outcomes

  • Conditions where effective treatment exists and morbidity or mortality may be reduced, and where no current guideline exists

  • Availability of sufficient evidence to support a systematic review

  • Alignment with identified clinical priority areas

  • Documented need supported by a broad network of relevant stakeholders

Submission Process & Next Steps

This call represents the initial concept submission phase.➡️ Detailed application instructions, submission templates, and the full review process will be announced at a later date.

 

Once submitted, proposals will undergo structured review by the appropriate oversight bodies. Applicants will be notified of review outcomes according to the published timeline for each cycle.

Call for Guideline Panel Members

We invite experienced clinicians, researchers, and professionals with relevant expertise to serve as members of guideline development panels.

 

Panel members play a pivotal role in producing credible, transparent, and clinically meaningful recommendations.This process is informed by internationally recognized guideline development frameworks emphasizing multidisciplinary input, scientific rigor, and balanced representation.

 

Nominees are invited to submit: A professional biography and brief statements (250-300 words)

Experts considered for panel membership may include, but are not limited to: physicians, nurses, clinical pharmacists, dietitians, respiratory therapists, and other clinicians with specialized expertise relevant to the guideline topic.

 

Selection of Panel member  

  • Strong research expertise

  • Reliability and ability to meet deadlines

  • Capacity to work effectively in a collaborative, multidisciplinary environment

  • Commitment to gender, career-stage, and geographic diversity

  • Participate in all scheduled panel meetings and conference calls and adhere to established timelines

  • Contribute to dissemination and implementation activities, including development of clinical resources

  • Motivation for serving on the guideline panel

  • Relevant expertise and experience
